Angelika’s Road to Recovery

Just hours before it happened, Angelika and I were texting and she had told me to drive safe in the heavy rain. I never imagined that only a few hours later, I’d get a call from the police telling me to come home urgently… something had happened.

On Wednesday 31st July, Angelika suffered a sudden brain aneurysm at home while doing housework. Our 9-year-old son, Jayden, was upstairs watching TV when she called out to him for help. Moments later, she collapsed, stopped breathing, and began frothing at the mouth. Jayden with his incredible courage, called triple zero and, under the guidance of the phone operator, performed CPR and brought his mum back to life.

Angelika was rushed to St George Hospital and then transferred to Prince of Wales ICU, where our lives have since been turned upside down. She has undergone multiple emergency procedures, including:

  • Burr hole surgery drilling into the skull to relieve pressure from bleeding in the brain
  • A 4-hour angiogram and surgery to remove a dangerous clot and insert a stent and coil
  • A second angiogram, regular CT Scans, MRI's and Ultrasounds
  • Ongoing treatment for swelling in the brain, migraines, collapsed lung and assisted breathing, blood clot to the right lung, blood clot in her leg, blurred vision, high fever and dangerously high blood pressure

Angelika remains in ICU, bedridden with a drain in her skull, facing daily risks of stroke, brain damage, and blindness. Her recovery will take months, possibly longer, with regular angiograms, surgeries, scans, rehab, and medications ahead. She’s now at high risk of future aneurysms and blood clots, which will need to be closely monitored with regular scans and ongoing care. The doctors have warned us this will be a long and uncertain road and she may not be able to return to work or to a normal routine for up to 12 months.

Why We're Asking for Help

We’ve been overwhelmed by kind messages, prayers, and offers of help and for that, we are truly grateful. So many have asked, “How can we support you?”

This GoFundMe has been created to help us cover:

  • Ongoing hospital, specialist consultations, surgeries and medical bills
  • Rehabilitation, scans, medication and long-term treatment
  • Allowing unpaid time away from work to care for both Jayden and Angelika

Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards supporting Angelika’s recovery and easing the pressure on our little family during this difficult time.

Please keep Angelika in your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to share updates as she fights her way forward, step by step.

Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting.

With Love,
Nicolas, Angelika & Jayden Ansara
