We've created this GoFundMe page for Angela, who is currently in an Intensive care unit in India, to help cover life-saving medical expenses that fall outside of the specialised insurance policy that she had in place.

Angela had taken out a top‑tier plan with DAN Europe, who specialise globally in international diving insurance. However, the family were devastated to learn that the policy’s small print limits medical coverage to just 30 days from the date of an incident.

Her medical consultants have advised that her treatment and recovery will be a long and complex journey, and it is likely she will need to remain in hospital for several months, before being able to return home to her family and friends in the UK.

This discovery has come as a huge shock. The family were already worried about how they would manage the costs associated with being by her side during such an upsetting and uncertain time. The unexpected gap in insurance coverage has added significant financial pressure at a moment when all focus should be on Angela’s recovery. If we are able to raise enough to cover Angela's life saving medical costs, any excess would contribute towards helping her children stay by her side at this devastating time.

On Wednesday 22nd July 2026, Angela’s children were informed that she had fallen critically ill shortly after completing a non‑eventful scuba dive in the Maldives. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and doctors were forced to place her into an induced coma and on life support.

On Friday 24th July 2026, she was transferred by medevac air ambulance to the nearest suitable treatment facility in New Delhi, India, which specialises in Hyperbaric Medicine . The hospital informed the family that a relative had to be physically present before Angela could be admitted. Thankfully, her daughter Joanne managed to secure an emergency visa and flew out immediately, ensuring Angela could be accepted into the hospital’s care without further delay.

On 30th July 2026 Angela was finally able to start Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy which helps treat Severe Decompression Illness, this is usually started immediately, but Angela could not safely start this treatment for 8 days as she was too unstable.

Angela has needed continuous Dialysis since arriving, due to her kidneys not functioning.

Although there are signs of improvement, its still too early to know her long term prognosis

Angela is a highly experienced scuba diver. She is a PADI Dive Instructor with over 26 years of diving experience and more than 3,000 logged dives around the world. Angela has won awards for her underwater photography and videography and is a well respected individual in the scuba world.

We have reviewed the data from her dive computer, along with the report provided by the dive centre she was with on the day, and nothing unusual or concerning has been identified. They did not go deeper than 30 metres and the dive lasted 42 minutes, using Nitrox, with both the descent, ascent and safety stops conducted safely. At this stage, it remains unclear why Angela became so unwell shortly after returning to the boat.

Angela is a hard working manager of a care home supporting adults with severe learning and physical disabilities. When she is not working she loves spending time with her 7 grandchildren, visiting the theatre or diving. She is a much loved mum, nan, sister, aunt, friend, and colleague. We hope she continues to remain strong and resilient and will be able to return home to be with her family and friends.
