Hello! I’m Angel Baer. Due to an unfortunate accident, I am a T-11 Complete Paraplegic. It’s been almost a year now, and I still don’t have disability income, and I got let go from my beloved job at the library shortly after returning from rehab. I am continuing in my efforts to acquire my degree in Information and Library Science. I continue with my PT, although not as often as I’d like due to outrageous insurance copays.
What I am seeking now are ways to perform different tasks and to be able to stand. Here’s what I have found: You have to be really wealthy to survive a life as a handicapped individual. There are roughly four different items that would help me become more functional and enjoy my life once more, and all of them are $5,000 to $10,000 apiece.
I lost all of my dreams between the accident and the loss of my job. Now, I have to find new dreams, and I’m trying. Last October, I completed my first Cycle to the Shore with my MS riding team, “The Wellness Wheelers.” I can’t tell you what that meant to me. So thankful for those who helped me achieve my goals through prayers, donations, and rides.
I continue to stay focused on the positives and do not allow myself to continually grieve. While I miss my previous life of running, dancing, paddle-boarding, and cycling, I am trying to adjust my goals to those that are attainable.
Won’t you help me chip away at these goals and dreams?
The Freedom Rise Standing Wheelchair starts at $10,000 and comes from Australia. The one that I have found on eBay is $6,000. The things we take for granted. I have never understood how blessed I was just to be able to stand. I do now.
Thank you so much to everyone that has been donating to our situation. We still have a home because of your generosity. I mean that with all pride set aside. This has taken everything that we have to still be here. Thank you doesn’t cover it. I owe you all for giving me hope.
This equipment that I am seeking will allow me access to everything above my current 3 1/2 feet in height. Most importantly, it will give me the joy of being outdoors, soaring in an upright position, feeling the euphoria of the sun on my face… almost like running.
