Help Andy Recover: Liver Disease, Bladder Stone & Urgent Care Needed
My sister Carla and her husband Steve needed help with their dog Andy, after Steve received a serious medical diagnosis requiring long-term treatment, including an extended hospital stay. During this difficult time, Carla needed to remain by Steve’s side — and naturally, Andy needed someone to care for him.
Andy has been in my care for over a month now. During his stay, he began showing unusual behaviors that raised serious concern. Trusting my instincts, I took him to University Veterinary Hospital in Shreveport, LA — the same place where my own Shih Tzu once received excellent care.
There, Andy was evaluated and underwent comprehensive testing. Results revealed a serious liver dysfunction, and his veterinary team is currently working through a list of possible causes — including a liver shunt, hepatitis, or a congenital anomaly. The ER veterinarian recommended that Andy be admitted for overnight observation and supportive care to stabilize his condition.
Andy’s initial visit resulted in unexpected and urgent costs totaling $2,203.45.
Radiographs taken during his exam revealed another alarming issue — a large bladder stone. This stone poses a life-threatening risk: if it obstructs Andy’s urethra, he could be unable to urinate, which would require emergency surgery.
His road to recovery is complex and costly. He now needs:
· Advanced diagnostics including a CT scan, liver biopsy, and ongoing blood panels
· A prescription diet and daily medications to support liver function
· Possible surgery to remove the bladder stone
Andy is a sweet, resilient pup who deserves a fighting chance. Every donation will go directly toward his medical care — helping us cover current expenses and continue the treatment he urgently needs.
Please consider donating and sharing Andy’s story. Your support means the world to him _ and to all of us who love him!
