This February our dear friend Andy will be having top surgery– a major accomplishment and milestone after years of pursuing consultations with surgeons and navigating insurance coverage. Thankfully, insurance will be covering the procedure itself, but as a self-employed freelancer, Andy needs support taking the six weeks away from work that will be required to heal.
Those of us who are lucky enough to know Andy know well how generously they give their time and energy to their friends and wider community. Andy is a street medic, helping keep people safe at protests, and is a dedicated part of 12-step recovery fellowships. They are a talented artist and leatherworker who is always willing to lend their skills and knowledge to others’ needs. We know Andy as a creative problem solver, a caring listener, a reliable shoulder to lean on, and a loving, funny friend whose humor is a light during even the hardest moments. Now is our time to return that care to them!
Any amount helps. For trans people of color, financial safety can be precarious under the best of circumstances. As a born and raised New Yorker, Andy deserves to have ease and security in their home city– especially in this important moment. Funds raised here will go to paying rent and bills while Andy is recovering, meals, transportation to and from follow-up appointments, post-surgery supplies, and a small cushion to ease their return to a physically demanding job.
Thank you so much for your support!
Note from Andy:
I know we are in such a precarious moment in time, and that there is so much need around us. There are so many important causes that need all of our time and energy and support. I am humbled to ask for help right now, but I have been shown so much love and support by my communities time and time again that allows me to do so. I am thankful for any donation, large or small, any shares, or well wishes. I am forever grateful! Love you. -Andy
