My uncle Andy is in dire need of a life saving antibiotic. Most of Andy's adult life has been spent in a wheelchair leading to pressure sores and infections that have spread into the bones (osteomyelitis). Due to the infections spreading to the bones they cannot remove it. This is a battle Andy will have to fight for the rest of his life and needs new antibiotics to fight off these infections and prevent further spreading.
Andy currently had 4 types of bacterias growing. Each requiring their own antibiotic to treat. One of the antibiotics to treat Acinetobacter is a new antibiotic and while others have stopped working this new one gives Andy a new hope . The medication is $1500 a day and will need to be administered for 6 weeks ($63,000 total). Insurance denied the initial request to cover the costs of the medication and once again the health system has failed someone in need.
No one should have to pay this much for life saving medications, nor have to stress about his insurance not taking care of them in need.
Anyone who knows my uncle knows that Andy is a fighter and has overcome many obstacles in his life and would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need.
Our family greatly appreciates any contributions to this goal of $70,000 that will go towards Andy's medical bills and at home care.
