Help Andre and His Family Recover from a Mental Health Crisis

Andre is an 18-year-old senior at South Albany High School. A dedicated student and athlete, he was awarded Defensive Player of the Year for his senior season and received a full-ride scholarship offer in Kansas. However, he remains undecided about his future, as he wants to stay close to his family and girlfriend in Oregon. Andre has always excelled academically and is respected by his peers, coaches, and school staff. A lifelong member of the Linn County community, he regularly attends church and recently began working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) while living independently in his own apartment to prepare for adulthood.

In late January 2025, Andre suffered what is believed to be a mental injury due to extreme bullying and racism at school. While the school is reportedly addressing the incident, the impact on Andre has been devastating. He was hospitalized for over a week and has since experienced severe cognitive and executive function impairments, leaving him unable to care for himself as he once did.

As a result, Andre has had to step away from sports, switch to online schooling with accommodations, and move back in with his mother. His mother, now his full-time caregiver, has been forced to close her successful daycare business to care for him and his younger siblings, ages 11 and 5. This has placed tremendous financial strain on the family, as both Andre and his mother have been out of work for over a month, and bills are piling up. They do not have anyone else providing for them.

Despite utilizing available public and community services, the family is struggling to make ends meet. They have relied on the generosity of friends and family, but the road to recovery is proving long and uncertain. They urgently need $3,000 to cover immediate expenses, including rent, utilities, and essentials.

Andre and his mother are working with an attorney to establish legal guardianship, as he is now an adult but unable to manage his healthcare needs. They also plan to pursue a personal injury claim to hold those responsible accountable.

Bullying can have lifelong consequences, affecting a person’s education, athletic career, employment, and overall well-being. Andre’s story highlights the devastating effects of harassment and the urgent need for support in such cases.

Please consider donating and sharing this campaign to help Andre and his family during this critical time. Your support will provide them with the stability they need to focus on his recovery.

Thank you for standing with Andre and his family.
