Support Andres and Fernanda's College Dreams

Hi everyone! I have had the honor this past year of working with two bright students, Andres and Fernanda, as their college mentor. I met them through a highly selective program for under-resourced students, and got to know them well through our weekly sessions together. These siblings are graduating in a few weeks and they could not be more excited to attend UC Santa Cruz in the fall with ambitions to become a physical therapist and a lawyer.

Throughout my time knowing them I have witnessed their determination and commitment to their education as well as their kind-heartedness and unwavering support for each other. Their family immigrated from Colombia near the beginning of their high school career, and they suddenly had to learn a new language, culture and school system. The first few months in the U.S. were hard, and their grades were lower than they were accustomed to. But their English quickly improved, and soon they were earning high grades and working at English-speaking jobs after school. They are proud to be graduating soon, having learned so much more in high school than just the contents of their textbooks.

I’m writing to ask you to join me in supporting Fernanda and Andres. They are a duo that always has each others’ backs, and I believe the support they have for each other will allow them to accomplish anything. The financial burden of college is heavy for their family, especially with two students at the same time. Donations will make it possible for them to cover some tuition, board and living expenses.
