Support Andrea's Liver Transplant Recovery

Andrea recently faced a life-changing medical emergency. After some time of feeling unwell, her symptoms became impossible to ignore, prompting her husband, Dan, to rush her to the ER in Wausau, WI on April 6, 2025. After receiving emergency care, and a 50/50 survival prognosis, she was transported by med-evac to UW Health Hospital in Madison, WI where she spent several days in ICU.

During the first two weeks in the hospital, she underwent numerous tests. She was finally diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a genetic disorder that severely damaged her liver and began affecting her kidneys and other organs. Andrea is only 54 years old.

The diagnosis was followed by more tests, and she was moved to the top of the liver transplant list. Yes, it was that severe.

Andrea underwent a successful liver transplant on Easter Sunday. She remains hospitalized, with Dan by her side every moment. Her children and family visit as much as possible. She is still weak but getting stronger every day.

Dan and Andrea are far from home. Dan has been on leave from work since Andrea went into the hospital staying in a local hotel that provides discount rates to family members of patients. He eats in the hospital cafe or out of vending machines as he tries to cut costs. These costs are necessary but mounting. And despite having health insurance, the co-pays and additional expenses are overwhelmingly adding up!

When Andrea is discharged from the hospital, she will require 24-hour in-home nursing care for several months. They will also need to make trips back and forth to Madison for follow-up care with her medical team.

Andrea and Dan are receiving great emotional support from family but now they urgently need financial support from family and friends to manage all the expenses and help alleviate the stress so Andrea can focus on her recovery.

Andrea will be forever grateful to everyone who is willing and able to assist them at this crucial time. She is looking forward to regaining her health, and living a long, healthy life with her family and friends.
