On May 15th, Andrea was in a severe auto accident. It is by God's grace alone that she is still with us. While she acquired injuries to her spinal column, the severity of her injuries were to her brain. As many of you are aware, Andrea had to be life-flighted and resuscitated at the scene of the accident after being rescued by the jaws of life. During her time without oxygen, she suffered a hypoxic brain injury along with a diffusion axonal brain injury, or DAI for short, from the impact of the collision. DAI is the most severe type of brain injury to overcome to begin with, however, Andrea is also fighting the hypoxic/anoxic as well. Andrea is young and is currently at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, which is one of the country's top hospitals for traumatic brain injury. She has made so much progress and we are counting our blessings each day with every baby step she takes in her healing. We are still in the waiting for Andrea to fully emerge, however, her body is fighting against her because of the brain injury itself.
There is a specific surgery/device implantation we have been on the schedule for 3 different times, however, due to sickness the first time and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas denying treatment, the last two scheduled procedures were canceled, the last being this Wednesday about 90 minutes before she was supposed to go into the OR. She was already successful with the trial procedure and all medical staff are in agreement that a permanent device needs to be placed as it is instrumental to her body's healing and for the ability to care for her moving forward. The doctors have also requested for a 2 week stay following placement of the device to allow for rapid adjustment of the pump to optimize her dosage, provide additional rehabilitation and family training. Being that the BCBS and the employer that supplies the plan are not taking action to approve the treatment, we need your help as we are aiming to pay cash for the surgery to make sure Andy gets the best and much-needed procedure.
God has gone before us and has given us the strength to continue fighting for her. Please come alongside us and let's get her in that Operating room! If you cannot help financially, please continue to pray. Pray for continued provision and healing.
