At just 29 years old, our dear friend Andrea has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and her life has been turned upside down. She is a loving wife, an incredible mother to her sweet 2-year-old son, and an amazing friend, sister, and daughter. She is one of the strongest, most selfless people we know, always the first to lend a hand, offer support, or show up when someone else is in need. Now, she needs us. As she prepares to begin chemotherapy very soon, she is also facing the overwhelming financial burden that comes with treatment. Her plan includes 5 months of chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the tumor, radiation, and the many post-treatment therapies required for recovery. Unfortunately, not all of these treatments and related expenses are fully covered by insurance.

Before starting chemo, she must also undergo fertility preservation treatments. Many people may not realize that chemotherapy can damage the ovaries and eggs, often leading to early menopause and making it difficult or even impossible to have children in the future. Because of this, her doctors have recommended fertility treatments now so that she and her husband may have the chance to grow their family later through IVF. This process is time-sensitive, expensive, and rarely covered by insurance, adding even more stress during an already difficult time.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, with 1 in 8 women in the United States being diagnosed in their lifetime. While survival rates continue to improve thanks to early detection and treatment, the financial, emotional, and physical toll remains significant. Treatment can last months or even years, and the costs often extend far beyond medical bills to include medications, travel, childcare, and lost income.
