Support Andrea's Critical Hip Replacement

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Andrea, and I’m scheduled for a total hip replacement on August 5th — a surgery that has been delayed for more than six years due to misdiagnosis, insurance issues, and systemic gaps in care.

In 2021, after years of unexplained injuries and chronic pain, I was diagnosed with bilateral developmental hip dysplasia — a congenital condition in which the hip sockets are abnormally shallow. This condition typically presents in infancy or early childhood and is corrected with early intervention. In my case, it went undetected for decades.

Throughout my life, I experienced repeated injuries that were never fully explained — I was forced to withdraw from nearly every sport I attempted, including CrossFit in adulthood, due to pain and instability. My original surgery in 2021 was only intended to be a short-term solution. Unfortunately, I now require a full total hip replacement (THR) on one side, and will eventually need surgery on the other hip, as well as a spinal fusion due to secondary degeneration.

I also live with hypermobile fibromyalgia, which complicates both recovery and pain management. My case is complex and time-sensitive.

Why I’m Asking for Help:

I’ve exhausted all other options. I currently have no income, cannot return to work in the fall, and do not qualify for unemployment or government assistance.

My family has operated a school cafeteria food service company for over 20 years. I’ve spent years working on my feet in pain, pasting on a smile while supporting hundreds of students each day. However, we follow the academic calendar, and I do not receive income during the summer months. Despite actively searching for summer employment, my physical limitations and the current job market made it impossible to secure adequate work. I also experienced a severe panic attack while attempting to start one of the jobs I had lined up, leaving me concerned about my mental health during recovery.

If I lose my health insurance coverage, which is currently at risk, my surgery will be postponed again — possibly for another year. I have also been informed that I must complete dental work totaling $370 to receive surgical clearance.

What Your Donation Supports:
• Health insurance premiums ($260/month)
• Dental clearance costs ($370)
• Basic living expenses during 3–4 months of recovery
• Out-of-pocket medication and copays (PT 3–4x/week, follow-ups, $10-40+ per visit)
• Post-surgical support, including dog walkers and transportation to PT
• Medical supplies and mobility aids
• Uncovered surgical expenses (to be determined)
• A modest emergency cushion to remain housed and insured

This surgery is not elective. It is necessary for me to regain mobility, reduce pain, and prevent further degeneration of my spine, knees, ankles, and shoulder. I’ve tried for years to handle this privately, but I’ve reached the point where I must ask for help.

Whether you’re able to give financially, share my story, or simply offer encouragement — it all makes a difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read and support my healing journey.

With sincere gratitude,
Andrea
