Andrea Phillips was recently diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments to fight the disease, and will also be facing surgery and radiation over the coming year.

Andrea and her high-school sweetheart, James, have been married for 25 years and have five children. They live in Jasper, Ala.

This isn’t the first time the family has faced a devastating medical diagnosis. Over the last few years, the family has overcome James losing a leg to a severe infection and near-fatal cardiac issues following a massive heart attack. The family currently has limited income as James is in the process of seeking disability benefits. He continues to operate The Community Journal and does some freelance writing, while Andrea has been working as a substitute teacher in the Jasper City and Walker County school systems. They are averaging two to three trips per week to Birmingham for chemotherapy and medical visits for Andrea as well as continued visits for James.
