Dear friends and family,

We want to take a moment to share our heartfelt journey with you as we prepare for the arrival of our son, who is currently 28 weeks in utero.

At our 19-week anatomy scan in Rochester, MN, we received the unexpected and heartbreaking news that our little boy has LUTO (Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction). This condition has caused significant complications—his blocked bladder prevents him from producing urine in the womb, which in turn affects the development of his lungs. Additionally, his left kidney has developed an Urinoma due to urine accumulation, while his right kidney is barely functioning.

Andrea has shown incredible strength, bravely undergoing several procedures to help drain our son's bladder. The next important step was to qualify for shunt surgery, designed to help manage his condition by draining urine into the bladder and ultimately increasing his amniotic fluid levels. While we celebrated the success of the first surgery, we faced the devastating news that the bladder shunt fell out shortly after. Despite our determination to try again, subsequent attempts have been met with challenges, though we were able to provide him some temporary relief through infusions that support his lung development.

On April 17th, things took a critical turn when Andrea’s water broke at 11:45pm. We were quickly transported to Mayo in Eau Claire, WI, and now find ourselves in Rochester, anxiously awaiting our son’s arrival. We know that upon his birth, he will need to be in the NICU for 6 months to a year, requiring dialysis and eventually a kidney transplant, along with additional bladder surgery.

As if the emotional toll of this journey wasn’t enough, we have also faced significant financial strain. With medical bills accumulating and Andrea having to stop working unexpectedly at just 28 weeks pregnant, our situation has become quite challenging.

As we navigate this uncertain path, we are reaching out to our community, hoping for any support you might feel compelled to offer. Any contributions towards our son’s care would mean the world to us as we strive to provide him with the best possible medical support, all while caring for our daughter, Nova.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support during this incredibly difficult time.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Andrea, Renee, and Nova
