NOTE: We are pleased to say that at this point they are not talking about a lung transplant. However, the medical bills, copays, Rxs are piling up. Because of her fragile health we felt it too risky to have her sent to a nursing home, and instead have her recovering in the safety of her own home, with a private-pay home health aid. Please continue to support her so we can continue to have this caregiver helping with her recovery. THANK YOU for all past donations - without your support we would never have been able to bring her home to continue to get better. God Bless.

Peggy (Smith) Dmytruk is a truly gentle soul, who is now in urgent need of our help. Peggy suddenly contracted a rare autoimmune disease Myositis (JO1 antibody) with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). This disease went directly after her respiratory system, and has destroyed her lungs beyond recovery. Peggy’s condition is critical at this point, and her only chance of survival requires a double lung transplant. The out of pocket and deductible costs for this are astronomical.
We need to act fast to help her! NOTE: I put a goal of $25,000 because I have no idea what this will cost...if she gets into a non participating hospital it could be more than $200,000...I am going to continue collecting long after we reach (I hope) our goal....which I raised. I did not want to start out and feel like we did not accomplish it. THANK YOU ALL for your amazing support.
Peggy is a devoted wife, and mother of 2 sons. She is an active member of St. Bernadette Church in New Haven, where she is the Parish Secretary. She has a strong faith in God, and is a true Christian in every way. Peggy is a special person, who always has a smile for everyone she encounters.
She remains a dedicated committee member and assistant treasurer to BSA Troop 401, long after her sons (both Eagle Scouts) have completed scouting. She dedicates much of her free time between her family, scouts, church and community service, where she often makes meals for the homeless. She is a wonderful friend and person. Peggy is known for being a ray of sunshine to all who meet her, and never has an unkind word about anyone. The world is truly a better place because she is in it.
Peggy has been in MICU in Smilow-Yale New Haven Hospital since February 17th. Even with medical insurance, deductibles, out of pocket medical costs, not being able to work, and copays, their expenses are mounting. While these add up, the real and true financial burden will be her lung transplant.
The doctors feel her best chance of survival is in NY, however both of the hospitals that are able to do this type of transplant are not in network. The cost of such a procedure will be monumental, and insurance said this would include “uncapped and unlimited out of pocket expenses”. Alternatively, the only other chance of surgery would be in Cleveland, which will also incur major costs for her care, transportation to get her there (via private flight), and housing for her husband.
In addition to donations, we ask that you please keep her, and her family, in your prayers. At a time when the world is a little off its track with this pandemic, fundraisers and such are extremely difficult.
Sincerely, Friends of Peggy
