I’m Nicole and I’m organizing this campaign on behalf of Lauren, Jesse, Margo, and their beautiful new baby Luca Winter Rosenthal.

Luca was born in the afternoon on Friday, December 6. He was immediately taken to the NICU because he couldn’t pump his little heart on his own and he presented with potential signs of brain injury during labor. Doctors in Maine immediately intervened and he was placed on life support and put into a medically induced coma as they began a 72 hour cooling procedure called therapeutic hypothermia. After close monitoring of his heart, he was transferred to Boston’s Children’s Hospital via Life Flight so that we could receive critical care and life saving treatment.

Lauren and Jesse have been back and forth between South Portland and Boston so they can be close to little Luca while trying to maintain some normalcy for Margo. It has been a scary time and they are taking it day by day. What we know now is that doctors are working hard to figure out what’s going on and keep teeny Luca’s heart working, and that several days in, he’s making positive progress.

We don’t know how long Luca will be in the NICU or what is next. What I do know is that as Lauren, Jesse, and Margo’s community, I am grateful that we have the chance to show up for them as they have shown up for all of us. ♥️
