Support Anaya and family on their road to recovery

Donation protected
Hello family, friends, and prayer warriors!

The evening of Thursday June 6th started off as any other for the Mitchell’s. Joey, Mia, and their two daughters Anaya and Journee set off for a fun filled evening on a boat in Lake Ray Hubbard like they had done many times before. This was an activity their family had enjoyed with friends and family for years! The girls are two of the closest sisters anyone could meet and their love for each other is easily noticed upon the first time meeting them. Anaya has ALWAYS been very protective of Journee. And that’s exactly what she was doing when the unthinkable happened to her and her family that night. While Anaya and Journee were tubing, the rope had gotten caught in the propeller pulling the girls rapidly towards the boat. In her attempts to push Journee out further the propeller sucked Anaya under the water.

Anaya suffered life altering injuries as anyone might imagine. It’s honestly a miracle Anaya is still with us today. Anaya broke 13 ribs. 6 on one side 7 on the other. She
lost her pancreas, part of her liver, part of her stomach, part of her right quadricep, her right breast and her abdominal wall. She also suffered multiple lacerations to her arm, shoulder, and hand.

As on today, July 29th, Anaya remains in the ICU recovering from her injuries. However, she has far surpassed where any of her doctors thought she’d be at this point. She is down to 2 of the original 9 wound vacs. Although she continues to have weekly skin grafting surgeries, she is nearing her procedures with plastic which should rebuild her abdominal wall as well as give her more symmetry  in her chest area among other procedures as well. This is an exciting point in her recovery! She has also stared Physical Therapy and has been able to stand briefly and even take a few steps.

We are all so proud of how strong this family and young woman have been through all of this. It’s amazing how much how much love, support, and encouragement they have been surrounded with and they are truly grateful for every prayer, call, meal, letters (the list goes on) from all of you.

I have created this GoFundMe to assist Anaya and her family with many of the unexpected expenses that have accumulated since the accident. Mia and Joey have been juggling their full-time jobs, caring for Anaya while taking care of her financial responsibilities, as well as getting their youngest daughter off to college for her freshman year. Go Jaguars! As no one knows what this next year or more will look like for Anaya we anticipate it being quite some time before she will be able to return to work or school in the near future. I humbly ask you all to help me make this transition back home for Anaya less financially stressful for her and her family by donating whatever you feel is appropriate.

Please please continue to keep Anaya, Joey, Mia, and Journee in your prayers as they move through their journey and recovery. I am confident in Anaya’s story to overcome will inspire those experiencing life changing injuries to never give up!

Thank you all!
