Support Ana's Memorial Trip to Venezuela in Honor of Her Mom

Please help me travel to Venezuela in memory of my mom

Loved ones & extended community,

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 26th, will be my first birthday without my mom alive.

I always told her that my birthday was HER day since she was the one who did all the work of creating life and suffering hours of labor giving birth to me on October 26, 1980 and then raising me. God knows I wasn't easy.

I found out about my mom's death on April 8th (she died on Good Friday; yes, like the Palestinian Jesus Christ, which I'm sure she appreciates from beyond).

Since that day I have been working hard to save money and accumulate/accrue free time at work to make a trip to Venezuela in her memory and to be able to go to her apartment and read her notebooks (my mom wrote a lot and was writing a book that I want to read), and to see if she left any last wishes written somewhere.

Of course there are many errands to do: clean her apartment, request her death certificate, confirm what documentation there is about her cause of death and autopsy, verify if she was cremated, look for her ashes (if there are any left), visit and meet Glamour (the little dog that was her companion until the end and that was there for 9 days taking care of her body before being found), there are many errands... But the most important thing is to do something in her memory, remember her, light candles and leave prayers in her honor in significant places of my childhood.

My brother and I have tried to move mountains with our funds but I need help so I don't end up owing rent or in debt and I think we have loved ones and extended community waiting to be able to support to make room to focus on the emotional process more, because it is very difficult to process death while one is doing accounting and working full time and so far from home.

I am sharing a GoFundMe to raise funds for the following expenses (some include for both my brother and I):

U.S. passports (application fee $130, execution fee $35) x 2 = $330

Venezuelan passports $230 x 2 = $460

Tickets my brother paid for/advanced to Panama for Venezuelan passport renewal appointment $906.80

Tickets to Venezuela (for me only) with mandatory stopover in Colombia $1,782.84

Pet care and leaving enough for 3 weeks of necessities just in case

(my chosen family is coming to stay at my house from New York and recently paid $1,000 for the dog’s vaccines, I would like to be able to give them $50 per day [$25 per dog] for their support and that does not include travel expenses) = $1,000

Vehicle rental in Venezuela if possible to be able to go to certain places in her memory = approx $750

Por favor ayúdame a viajar a Venezuela en memoria de mi mamá

Seres queridos,

Mañana sábado 26 de octubre va a ser mi primer cumpleaños sin mi mami viva.

Yo siempre le decía que mi cumpleaños era SU día ya que fue ella la que hizo todo el trabajo de crear vida y de sufrir horas de labor pariendo me el 26 de octubre de 1980 y luego criandome, Dios sabe que yo no fui facil.

Me enteré de la muerte de mami el 8 de abril (ella murió viernes santo; si, como Jesús Cristo Palestino, lo cual estoy segura ella aprecia desde el más allá).

Desde ese día he estado trabajando duro para ahorrar dinero y acumular tiempo libre en el trabajo para hacer un viaje a Venezuela en su memoria y para poder llegar a su apartamento y leer sus cuadernos (mi mamá escribía mucho y estaba escribiendo un libro que quiero leer), y buscar a ver si dejó últimos deseos escritos en alguna parte.

Por supuesto que hay muchas diligencias por hacer: limpiar su apartamento, solicitar su certificado de muerte, confirmar que documentación hay sobre su causa de muerte y autopsia, verificar si fue cremada, buscar sus cenizas (si todavía hay), visitar y conocer a Glamour (la perrita que fue su compañera hasta el final y que estuvo ahí por 9 días cuidando de su cuerpo antes de ser encontrada), hay muchas diligencias... Pero lo más importante es hacer algo en su memoria, recordarla, prenderle velitas y dejar rezos en su honor en lugares significativos de mi infancia.

Mi hermano y yo hemos tratado de mover montañas con nuestros fondos pero necesito ayuda para no quedar debiendo alquiler o en deuda y creo que tenemos seres queridos y comunidad extendida esperando poder apoyar para abrir espacio para enfocarme en el proceso emocional más, porque es muy difícil procesar la muerte mientras uno está haciendo cuentas y trabajando tiempo completo y tan lejos de casa.

Estoy compartiendo un GoFundMe, mi Venmo y mi Zelle para recaudar fondos para los siguientes gastos (algunos incluyen para ambos mi hermano y yo):

Pasaportes gringos (application fee $130, execution fee $35) x 2= $330
