Support Anarchy Yoga: A New Approach to Liberation

At 43 years old, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I had been teaching yoga for ten years when I received this news. Fear and despair tried to take hold, but my students helped me rise above. I had to fight back. Now I’m in the best shape of my life. My struggling body taught me perfection does not exist. Despite ourselves, we all possess infinite potential to grow, change.

Fighting Parkinson’s has led me to redefine my approach to yoga. The yoga journey is one of self-awareness and growth, not mastery. I’m reaching out to ask for support to help me share this newfound approach by opening my own studio: Anarchy Yoga.

Anarchy Yoga will be based on the concept that yoga is about learning to be self-governed: trusting your self-awareness and self-knowledge rather than relying on what anyone says about what is right or best for your body.

Your donations will help Anarchy Yoga create a New Orleans studio that

-Attunes to individual student needs in real time

-Creates a space for all bodies to be safe and empowered in yoga practice

-Teaches students to listen to their own bodies first and find ways to navigate physical challenges or limitations

-Offers an interactive, feedback-driven classroom experience

-Offers diverse classes with variety of physical challenges and building blocks for increasing strength and agility

-Grows a playful, loving New Orleans community via unconventional offerings such as kitten and puppy yoga, yoga fundraisers, self-defense classes, themed classes, classes shaped around carefully curated edgy playlists

-Focuses on bringing yoga back to it’s original intent–attunement and growth

Small donations will be incredibly helpful! Your donations to Anarchy Yoga support:

-Start up cost of the space, utilities, and insurance

-Purchase of yoga props and simple studio furnishings, a speaker system, a small fridge, entryway furniture, miscellaneous items like towels, candles, incense, and essential oils

-Initial marketing and management costs, including booking platform

-Laying of new cushioned floor
