My dear sweet "little sister" Analia, age 25, is in intensive care fighting against COVID.
Analia is the daughter of Liz Barrionuevo, famous for Baños Spanish Center in Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador.
I met Analia in 2013 on the first day of my first solo trip to South America. Liz, Analia, and her brother Luigi immediately welcomed me into their home, helped me to learn Spanish, taught me how to slow down and appreciate small town life in Ecuador.
Later in 2013, while in Ecuador, I contracted Typhoid Fever. Liz was there with me by my side for every moment. She communicated with my family and got me the right treatment I needed (plus love and her excellent cooking) to help me make a full recovery. She and her family are now my family and always will be.
Analia is 25 years old and 6 months pregnant. She is in a regional hospital in Ambato, intubated and fighting for herself and for her baby. She and I are due about a week apart. We spoke just the other week about how fun it will be to reunite with our little ones. I am hopeful we will keep this plan.
In Ecuador, families often have to pay for medical supplies if the state medical plan doesn't cover them or have availability. The hospital is asking the family to pay for drug treatments and oxygen they must acquire themselves. If they don't pay, Analia will not receive what she needs to survive. This is the hard reality of many countries around the world. There are no payment plans or alternatives. She simply will not receive treatment if they don't buy the supplies.
I am able to transfer funds directly to the family from my bank account. I am covering all related fees, so 100% of donations arrive in Baños for Analia's treatment and recovery. If you can't help monetarily, the family asks for prayers.
