Hii Everyone,
I’m not usually one to ask for help, but my sweet cat Anakin has suddenly fallen very ill and we’re now facing an emergency situation.
On Monday (5/26), Anakin was rushed to the ER and diagnosed with FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease)and azotemia, which means his kidneys were being affected by a serious urinary blockage. This is a life-threatening condition, especially in male cats, and we were told we had to act fast—either do emergency surgery or say goodbye within 24 hours.
Thankfully, we were able to cover that first procedure, and the vets successfully relieved the blockage. He was hospitalized for 2.5 days and came home to rest. But just one day later, we had to rush him back. Unfortunately, he had re-blocked.
This time, the vet is recommending a perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery, which will hopefully eliminate the risk of future blockages altogether. However, the total cost for this surgery is $6,000, and he needs to stay overnight again (another $2,000), with the possibility of further hospitalization if complications arise ($1,500–$2,000 more).
We’ve reached a point where we simply can’t afford this next round of care without help.
Anakin is only 3 years old, and he’s such a silly and affectionate boy with so much life left to live. If you’ve ever met him, heard me talk about him, or just want to help this sweet lil guy get the second chance he deserves, please consider donating—every little bit helps, or sharing this with others who might be able to.
We’re also looking into pet insurance options that won’t deny him for his pre-existing conditions since that’s currently the issue at hand so I’m open to any recommendations!
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting in any way you can. This is super time-sensitive and a big stretch, but we’re staying hopeful.
With love,
Shirley & Anakin ❤️
