My grandmother is going to kill me when she sees this (Hi Avo!) but so be it. Hi! My name is Katie, and my sweet Avo, Anabela Nunes, needs help.

While on a weekend getaway in Salem, Massachusetts she fell and broke her hip. Instead of flying home the following Monday, she had to spend the week in the hospital and a hotel room with my mom. The night before they were set to fly home to Texas, she suddenly had excruciating pain. After returning to the ER she had been in just the week prior, she was diagnosed with a perforation in her intestines and was rushed to surgery. Thankfully, they were able to clean out the massive infection and repair the hole. She will now have to spend another week in Salem. So to recap, a weekend girls trip turned in to two major emergency surgeries and weeks in/out and back into the hospital.

My grandmother works two jobs to make ends meet. Because of the surgeries, she will spend at least a few months out of work. When she does have free time, she spends the majority of it serving the unhoused and less fortunate in Fort Worth, cooking and assembling meals for them and connecting them to resources. When others need help, she is the first person to jump in to offer help. She is the most selfless and Christ-like person I know, so the thought of her going through this hardship is devastating to me.

My grandmother would never ask for assistance, but I know that the stress of being unable to work and face medical bills is going to be suffocating, especially while trying to regain her strength and heal. I want to help ease her stress. Unfortunately, this is the only way I can think to help supplement her income.
