My name is Julian, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my mother, Ana.
My mom is 67 years old, and on May 9th — which was also Mother’s Day — she was rushed to the hospital after enduring weeks of worsening stomach pain that became unbearable. After multiple scans and tests, doctors discovered masses in her liver and colon. A week later, following a biopsy, we received the devastating news that she has Stage 4 Colon cancer and Liver cancer.
Hearing those words completely shattered both of our hearts.
Despite everything, my mom has remained incredibly strong and positive. Doctors have decided to move forward with chemotherapy treatment, which she is expected to begin within the next few days. Right now, we are holding onto hope that the treatment can help her fight this and someday bring her back home safely.
This past month has been the hardest and most emotionally exhausting experience of my life.
On top of the emotional pain and fear, we are now struggling financially. We are facing medical expenses, treatment costs, transportation, in-home support needs, rent, utilities, and everyday living expenses — all while losing our primary source of income.
For years, I worked alongside my mother as a caretaker and driver while she worked as a Home Health Aide and Hospice Nurse for over 35 years. My mother dedicated her entire life to caring for others during some of the most painful moments families could ever experience. She stayed beside countless patients until their final moments, comforting both them and their loved ones with compassion and kindness.
I personally witnessed how deeply people appreciated her. Families would send thank-you letters, gifts, and heartfelt messages because of the comfort and care she gave them during unimaginable times. Helping others was never just a job to her — it was who she was.
Now, my mother is too ill to continue working, and because I cared for and worked with her directly, I am unable to continue that work as well.
I’ve been doing everything I can to keep us afloat. I’ve taken on small jobs, sold personal belongings, applied for assistance programs, and borrowed money from friends just to try to stay ahead of bills. But despite all of that, it still isn’t enough.
We do not have family nearby. My father passed away in 2013, and before he passed, our savings were depleted. It has mostly just been me and my mother ever since. While I do have an older brother, he has unfortunately caused additional instability and stress in our lives during an already overwhelming time.
We are now at serious risk of losing our home after falling behind on rent due to everything that has happened. We never imagined we would be in a position where we would need to ask others for help like this.
But today, I am asking.
If you are able to donate, share this fundraiser, or even leave a kind message for my mother, it would truly mean the world to us. Every bit of support helps relieve some of the stress and reminds my mom that the kindness she spent her life giving to others is being returned to her now.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can give. We are deeply grateful.
