Support Ana after life changing surgery
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Debbie and I’ve created this fund to share a story, in the hopes that you can join me in helping my aunty, Ana Spillett and her family after a life changing surgery.
Back in September, Ana was diagnosed with 2 enlarged aneurysms and was advised that she will need to travel from Darwin to Adelaide to receive treatment. During the surgery, there were complications and as a result, she was put into a medically induced coma to save her life.
It was touch and go for a while, but after she finally regained consciousness, she was told that due to the complications during surgery she has become paraplegic and is also on dialysis. She will need spinal rehabilitation, and this is only available in Adelaide. We don’t know when she will be able to return home to her family in Darwin, because this all depends on how she manages through recovery and rehabilitation.
All of this has had a drastic impact on Ana’s family too. Her daughter, Annie, has had to fly to Adelaide to become her sole full-time carer, leaving her own child behind in Darwin to be cared for by extended family and friends. She is in the process of applying for financial support from the government, but until they start receiving payments, they are depending on the financial assistance of other family members while they are in Adelaide.
It breaks my heart to see how much these devastating events have taken a toll on the emotional, financial and mental well being of my Aunty Ana and her family.
I created this fund as a way to support Ana and her family through these difficult times during her recovery, and to support her transition into a new home and the additional adjustments to make her home more accessible.
Any donation or support would be deeply appreciated.
