“From the time you were three you were a fish in the water,” my mother’s words.

My love of swimming has taken me to places I could not have imagined, through competition, teaching, and life guarding.

While I don’t remember those very early years in the water, I can say that from a young age I have always loved being in the water and now as an adult in my 40’s, swimming is like a moving meditation for me. It’s a way to move the body and challenge the heart and the lungs all while remaining deeply peaceful and connected inside. After swimming, I feel at ease in my body, I effortlessly connect with others, and I’m able to effectively manage stress.

Just as I experienced growing up, I long to bring the opportunity of swimming to other children. So as they’re growing up, they too learn discipline. They too, get to experience and navigate the challenges and excitement of team and individual competition, And they also experience community and connection in being a part of a team.

The International sports complex on the campus, provides a facility for a variety of sports where children in India can practice and develop sports specific talents and skills and compete on a national and international level.

When I came to know about an Olympic size swimming pool being constructed as part of the Sports Complex at Kanha, I was full of joy thinking about a population without access to pools and learning to swim, now learning to swim.

Daaji’s vision for this pool is that all children have an opportunity to learn swimming, an opportunity he did not have as a child. This facility will also provide professional training to many who aspire to compete in sports at an international level. Join me.
