As an educator in the Syracuse City School District for over 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching countless awesome and talented students - but every once in a while, someone truly special comes along. Today, I’m reaching out on behalf of one of those students: a remarkable young man who is now pursuing his dreams at Syracuse University.
This student stood out from the beginning - not just for his artistic talent, but for his work ethic, his integrity, and his quiet leadership among his peers. In my years as an art teacher, I’ve rarely seen such a unique blend of creativity, humility, and determination.
Despite the challenges life has thrown his way, he continues to rise. Coming to the United States as a refugee from Burundi, he’s the one of the first in his family to attend college, and he’s doing it with grit and grace. But as many of us know, the cost of higher education is steep — and even with scholarships, there are still significant gaps to fill.
We are raising funds to help cover:
Art and school supplies vital to his coursework and creative development
A portion of his tuition not covered by aid or scholarships
Living essentials to support a stable and focused college experience
Your donation, no matter the size, will make a direct impact on this young man’s ability to stay on track and continue his education without the crushing weight of financial stress.
This student has already achieved so much — imagine what he could do with the support of a community that believes in him.
Thank you for helping to invest in a future artist, leader, and changemaker.
With deep gratitude,
Christina Ferlenda
