Rasheed is an overseas second-year student at the University of Hertfordshire who reverted to Islam in February 2024. Rasheed's family are Hindu Brahmins from Gujarat, and some are members of the anti-Muslim paramilitary RSS. Upon discovering his acceptance of Islam, Rasheed's family has stopped sending him funds (for tuition, accommodation, and food) and demanded that he immediately return home. His father has sent him a one-way ticket to India and has demanded that Rasheed abandon his studies.
Having witnessed firsthand the lynching of Muslims in his hometown, Rasheed fears for his life if he returns back to India. Last October Rasheed was attacked near Tesco by two knife-wielding Hindus, leaving a permanent scar on his upper arm. Unfortunately, the police were unable to apprehend the perpetrators. Rasheed is now under special protective measures from the university.
Without sufficient funds, Rasheed will be unable to complete his second year of university and will have no choice but to return home to a bleak future. He will either lose his life or be forced to abandon Islam.
Rasheed requires funds for this academic year only (2024-25) as in September 2025 he will take a gap year to work and fund his final year.
The total amount he needs for tuition fees, accommodation, and food is £9,500.
Your generous donation will ensure that Rasheed is not forced to return home to a family who are violently hostile to Muslims.
