My name is Yeilis. I am an afro-indigenous trans woman from Colombia who has fought my entire life for the right to simply exist. After fleeing to safety, I am now on a journey to finally feel at home as a refugee in The Netherlands and in my own body, and I need your support for this.

I was born into an Wayuu indigenous community in Colombia, where being trans was not accepted but instead met with violence and rejection. From a young age, I knew I was a woman, but because of the violence around me I was not allowed to be me. Even before transitioning I endured humiliation, threats, and isolation from my own family and community simply for being who I am.

My survival meant fleeing targeted violence from armed groups and even my own relatives, who vandalized my home and left me fearing for my life. The authorities offered no protection. I escaped to The Netherlands to seek asylum, and I am so grateful to now be in a place where I can live openly and without fear of persecution.

But the journey to my ideal self is not over yet. While I am safe externally, a deep source of personal dysphoria remains. Like many trans women, breast development from hormones can be limited. For years, breast augmentation has meant more than just a surgery for me—it is a vital step in aligning my outer self with my inner truth. It is about finally seeing the woman I am reflected in the mirror, without hesitation or pain. It is about the confidence to walk into my new life authentically.

This procedure is not covered by the basic insurance I have, and as an asylum seeker, I have very limited means. The cost of breast implants and the surgery is far beyond what I can afford.

I am asking for your support to help me achieve this dream of mine. In the past 3 years in Holland, I have been able to save part of the money I need, but it is not enough. That is what I am turning to you to help me gather the last 2 000 I need for this. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to feeling my true self. Please help me complete my journey. If you cannot donate, sharing my story with your network would also mean the world to me.

With gratitud,
Yeilis

Yeilis
