Help an 84-Year-Old Grandma Raising 3 Kids Replace Her Car

This morning, I was in a minor car accident. The sun was blinding, and an 84-year-old woman accidentally hit me from behind. My car is fine, but hers was totaled.

As we waited for the police, she shared her story: she’s raising her three young grandchildren after they were unexpectedly dropped off at her doorstep. She had already retired and paid off her home but had to take out a home equity loan just to buy them clothes and food.

Now she’s working two jobs at 84 years old, trying to make ends meet.

She only had liability insurance, which means her car is gone, and she has no way to get another. She cannot afford a car payment. And without a car, she can’t get to work, to the store, or to her doctor appointments. I can't even imagine the weight of responsibility on her shoulders, but I know she needs help.

She didn’t ask me for anything and just kept apologizing for taking up my time, but I feel like she was placed in my life for a reason. I want to help her replace her car and give her a little breathing room.
