Hi, my name is Grover Heard. My wife Amy and I are humbly reaching out because our family is facing one of the hardest situations we've ever experienced. We truly need your support, or even just your help in sharing our story.
Why We Need Your Support
Amy is currently hospitalized at 25 weeks pregnant with our miracle baby girl—an incredible blessing after two heartbreaking pregnancy losses. She has been hospitalized for more than three weeks due to severe pregnancy complications and needs constant medical monitoring. Because of this, Amy can't work right now, and soon I'll have to take leave from my job (FMLA) to care for her and manage things at home.
When my leave starts, we're going to face a serious financial shortfall—close to $5,000. A chunk of that shortfall comes from losing the $1,600 monthly support from my GI Bill benefits once I'm not actively working and attending classes. On top of that, our insurance won't fully cover the hospital bills from Amy's ongoing hospitalization.
How We Got Here
A few months ago, our family experienced a frightening incident at our previous apartment complex that forced us to move suddenly to protect Amy, DJ, and our unborn baby. That unexpected move drained all our savings, and now we can't afford legal assistance to try to recover those losses.
On top of everything else, DJ—our 12-year-old son who's currently in 6th grade—has been emotionally impacted by this. Because of our circumstances, I often have to drop him off at friends' houses or his grandmother's at night, just so someone can get him to school in the morning while I'm working early hours. This means DJ frequently doesn't get to sleep in his own bed, adding more stress and sadness to an already challenging situation. We rely on each other heavily for emotional support and we have to spend many days apart because of the work-school situation.
A Little Bit About Our Family
I'm an honorably discharged disabled veteran who served 11 years as an infantry Marine (including with 1st Battalion, 6th Marines from 2013–2019), and then spent my final years teaching new Marines at the School of Infantry. After leaving active duty, I became an electrician to continue supporting my family despite the physical challenges from my service-related disabilities.
Amy spent many years as a NICU nurse, then transitioned to IT in healthcare administration. She's always been the cornerstone of our family, managing the day-to-day responsibilities at home. Now that she's in the hospital, the tasks she normally handles—like grocery shopping, household management, caring for our dog, and daily routines—are all on me. Between working, attending school, taking care of DJ's transportation needs, and ensuring Amy has everything she needs in the hospital, I'm emotionally and physically exhausted.
How You Can Help
Any support you can offer—big or small—is deeply appreciated and will directly help cover rent, utilities, groceries, transportation costs for DJ, medical expenses for Amy, and preparation for our baby girl's arrival.
Even if you're unable to donate, sharing our campaign means the world to us. Prayers are being heavily asked for. Your kindness and generosity help our family move closer to stability during this difficult time.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us.
With sincere gratitude,
Grover, Amy, DJ, and our baby girl on the way
