Remembering Amy

Donation protected
It is with a very heavy heart that we share that Amy passed away on Monday, February 2nd, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. She was deeply loved and fought incredibly hard through unimaginable illness.

We are now shifting this fundraiser to support Amy’s mom, Becky, during this incredibly difficult time. Funds raised will help cover cremation and urn costs, outstanding medical bills, and day-to-day expenses as she navigates the days and weeks ahead without her daughter.

Becky has been by Amy’s side every step of the way, advocating for her, caring for her, and giving everything she had. Your continued support, prayers, and kindness mean more than words can express.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Amy and her family throughout this journey.

Amy Vitosh Update as of 1/9/26

After talking to Becky, I wanted to share another update as Amy’s condition continues to fluctuate day by day.

Over the past 24 hours, Amy has become significantly weaker and is currently unable to safely transfer on her own. She’s needed the use of a Hoyer lift and is spending most of her time resting and sleeping. She is still able to eat very small amounts, but needs help due to how weak and fatigued she is.

After a recent procedure, doctors have now confirmed that Amy is also dealing with significant liver damage. While her liver is still functioning to some degree, it is not working the way it should. Because both her liver and kidneys are not working well, medications and toxins are not clearing from her body properly, which is contributing to many of the symptoms she’s been experiencing.

In addition, her kidney team has made changes to her dialysis treatments, including using a larger machine and a different dialysis solution, in order to more effectively filter toxins from her body and improve the effectiveness of her treatments. Doctors believe much of her current weakness is the result of how long and how severely she has been ill.

Amy continues to require dialysis, close monitoring, and care from multiple medical teams. While some adjustments are being made to try to improve how she’s feeling, she remains very fragile and exhausted. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

This GoFundMe page is set up in hopes to continue to help cover transportation needs for Amy’s mom to care for their pets, meals, and medical and basic living expenses so she can remain there for Amy without the added burden of financial stress.

Thank you all for the continued support, prayers, and kindness.

UPDATE AS OF 1/5/2026

Hi everyone. Many of you know that Amy has already been through an incredibly long and traumatic hospitalization earlier this year after developing life-threatening necrotizing fasciitis. Since then, her health journey has unfortunately continued to be very difficult.

Amy has now been hospitalized for over a month with multiple serious medical issues, including repeated blood transfusions, a bloodstream infection, new painful non-healing wounds, and now concerning serious liver complications that are still under evaluation. During this time, she has also experienced significant weakness and periods of altered neurological status. She remains medically fragile and continues to require dialysis and close monitoring by multiple medical teams.

In addition, Amy’s mom, Becky, has been by her side throughout this entire hospitalization while also managing her own medical conditions. Funds raised now will help cover transportation costs between the hospital and home to care for their pets, as well as meals for Becky, and will help ease the burden of ongoing medical and living expenses during this incredibly difficult time. Please consider donating if you can, and please keep Amy in your good thoughts and prayers.

Hi everyone — Shelby and Amanda here. We’re setting up this GoFundMe on behalf of our best friend Amy, who is currently fighting through the most difficult and terrifying experience of her life.

What began as a routine minor surgery quickly turned into a medical nightmare. Within days, Amy developed a rare and life-threatening infection called necrotizing fasciitis, which progressed into sepsis. She was rushed to the ER, where she underwent emergency surgery to remove infected and necrotic tissue. This resulted in a very, very large wound. She was placed in a medically induced coma in the ICU and intubated on a ventilator.

She is now mostly stable and in the Burn Unit at UIHC where she is receiving very intensive wound care, painful dressing changes multiple times a day, and regular treatments in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to promote healing. She is also undergoing blood transfusions and frequent inpatient dialysis, and still faces multiple surgeries ahead as part of a very long and difficult road to recovery.

Anyone who knows Amy knows that she is one of the sweetest, most caring, and selfless people you could ever meet. She has always gone out of her way to help others — never asking for anything in return — and now, it's our turn to be there for her.

Amy and her family are on a very fixed income, and this medical crisis has placed an enormous financial burden on them. Her incredible mother has been by her side every step of the way, and her father flew in from Florida to be with her to provide support.

We are raising funds to help with:
* Medical expenses not covered by insurance
* Ongoing wound care and recovery needs
* Post-hospital treatment and transportation
* Basic living expenses and support for her and her mom during this difficult time

Our goal is to ease the financial burden so Amy can focus on healing, not worrying about how to afford it all.
Even a small donation makes a huge difference. If you're unable to give, please consider sharing this page and sending your love, prayers, or positive thoughts.
Let’s come together for Amy, just like she would for anyone else.

With heartfelt thanks,
Amanda & Shelby
