Hi Friends,
Many of you know Amy Nelson through her community activism and work in public education. She currently serves as the Director of Equity and Community Engagement for the Boulder Valley School District, as well as a number of other leadership roles around the county. I don't know of anyone who works harder for students and families in need. She is an absolute all-star and espouses every value we want to see in the world: character, courage, compassion, and commitment.
This past year Amy has had many life-defining moments. She has defeated cancer, gotten her doctorate, gotten engaged, helped her fiancé when he had a gran mal seizure and brain tumor diagnosis which resulted in a subsequent cranial surgery/recovery, been through TWO surgeries/recovery (related to cancer) of her own, and had her firstborn leave for college. Each of these has been a challenge/victory in its own way, and each of them has come with a price tag.
Amy is often the one raising money for others, but this time around I want to support her. That is why I am asking friends to come together to give a little relief to this well-deserving community member as a surprise gift to start her year off right!
My goal is to eliminate Amy's medical debt so she can focus on saving for their wedding, paying down her student loans, and helping her daughter Hailee with college expenses. Amy has gotten a little help before, but she and Ashley still have $6,711 worth of outstanding medical bills. She is on a payment plan with the hospitals (Anchuz and Boulder Community Hospital) but together we could eliminate this monthly burden entirely.
None of us are prepared for an unexpected major medical issue, and this single-momma, former-foster-youth, and hell-of-a-fighter has been working too hard all her life to let these bills be a crippling set-back.
So here's my ask: Would you consider making a contribution to this campaign AND sharing it with a few key people in your network who might be compelled by this story and willing to give as well? But please no social media. I am intentionally being discreet about this "ask" since no one, including Amy, likes to have their financial distress on public display, so please be considerate as well if you choose to spread the word.
Thank you for the opportunity to work together to make a real difference in someone's life. Amy will be so blessed by whatever amount we can collect.
Sincerely,
Amy Helling
