Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

Our sweet niece Amy and her husband Mason are facing a journey no young couple ever expects — and they’re walking it with more courage and grace than we can put into words.

At just 25 weeks into her pregnancy, Amy and Mason learned that their baby boy has myeloschisis, a severe form of spina bifida. His spinal cord is exposed, and he will need life-saving fetal surgery while still in the womb — a complex and delicate procedure that gives him the best possible chance at a healthy life.

Until recently, we believed insurance would cover this extraordinary care. But we’ve now learned that it will not cover the cost of the hospital stay, which could total upwards of $14,000 per day — on top of all the other expenses this young family is facing.

Mason is a full-time medical student, four hours away from the hospital where Amy will be undergoing surgery and receiving care. Their only car is barely hanging on, and Amy will likely be placed on bed rest, unable to work or move around much during recovery. They are doing everything they can, but they simply can’t do it alone.
