Our beloved Amy Brown is facing the fight of her life. Recently, Amy was diagnosed with ER-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer. While we remained hopeful, genetic testing revealed a rare RAD51 gene mutation, which has added significant complexity to her treatment and recovery. Because of this rare genetic marker and the fact that the cancer has reached her lymph nodes, Amy’s path to healing requires an aggressive, multi-stage medical plan.
On February 16th, Amy will undergo a major surgery involving a double mastectomy, ovary removal, and the removal of affected lymph nodes. This is only the beginning of her journey. Following her surgery, her treatment plan includes:
- Intensive Chemotherapy (DDAC + T): Beginning six weeks after surgery, Amy will undergo a "heavy dose" (Dense-Dose) regimen once every other week for 8 weeks.
- Secondary Chemotherapy (Taxol): Immediately following the first round, she will begin 12 weeks of Taxol treatments.
- Radiation: Once chemotherapy is complete, Amy will undergo radiation to target the positive lymph nodes and ensure no stone is left unturned.
Amy should be focusing 100% of her energy on this grueling 6-month treatment plan. Instead, she is battling a broken system. Despite having double insurance coverage, providers are denying her medical bills from January. As the costs for these life-saving treatments pile up and insurance continues to refuse coverage, the added stress is affecting Amy’s health when she needs strength the most.
