Support family of Amin Abdullah, Islamic Center of San Diego Martyr

Amin was the security guard at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Police say his actions kept Monday's attack from being far worse. Remember his legacy with us!

On Monday morning, two gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego — the largest mosque in San Diego County, attached to a school where dozens of children were in class. Amin Abdullah was the security guard on duty.

He didn't run. He stood his ground.

Hours later, the San Diego Police Chief stood at a press conference and said Amin "played a pivotal role in keeping this from being much worse." In plain words: Amin put himself between the gunmen and everyone inside. Teachers, staff, and more than a dozen children were walked safely out of that building by police that afternoon, hand in hand. They are alive because Amin did his job.

He paid for that with his life.

Those who knew him remember a man who greeted every person who walked through the masjid doors with a smile. "Every time you came, he greeted you and welcomed you," one community member told reporters. "Very energetic, very strong, very professional. You could tell he was willing to do his job greatly." He wasn't just a guard. He was the first face of that community to anyone who came through the door — and the last line of defense when it mattered most.

The funeral and the months of bills that follow are now for his family to face alone. This fund is for them.
