Obituary for Rustico Enriquez Gabrintina
September 24, 1950 – January 9, 2025

“Are you ready to go, Daddy?” Desiree Lacerna, Rustico Enriquez Gabrintina’s daughter asked, not knowing his response would be his last word. She planned to take him back to his home after eating dinner together and spending time with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

He smiled and answered, “Yeah.”

On January 9, 2025, Rusty peacefully departed while surrounded by family. Born on September 24, 1950, he was 74 at the time of passing. Fondly remembered as “Ka Rusty” or “Kuya Russ,” Rustico grew up in Pandacan, Manila, Philippines. From there, he enlisted in the United States Navy while stationed in San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA. He retired and settled in Virginia Beach, VA after 20 years of service. Ka Rusty treasured his lifetime membership and duty as a deacon in the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). Ka Rusty led a life full of love—for his unwavering faith, family, friends, church brethren, and service to his country.

A skilled Culinary Specialist, Rusty is remembered not only for the food he would prepare with love for his family and fellow brethren at church events but also for the inspiring stories of faith he would share over meals. He was a devout spiritual leader who cared for others and loved to work with his hands in general. Community-minded, Rusty also enjoyed gardening and performing handiwork at the house, for family and friends, and for the maintenance and upkeep of the chapel.

Rustico was the loving husband of Amelita Gabrintina for 46 years. They married on December 15, 1978, and immigrated from the Philippines to the United States. Together, they started their family. He was the proud father of five children, his “Lucky Five” and their respective spouses: Rhommel Gabrintina and wife Valerie, Darlene Pangilinan and husband Gabbriel, Desiree Lacerna and husband Edwin, Robert John Gabrintina and wife Ellaine, and Richard Gabrintina. Rusty was also a doting Papa to eight grandchildren: Amerie Hara Gabrintina, Ryker Zane Gabrintina, Theo Parker Lacerna, Owen Carson Lacerna, Aya Lumikha Gabrintina, Averlie Roma Gabrintina, Remy Lennox Lacerna, and Enzo Declan Lacerna.

Everyone who knew Rusty knew how important his faith, his commitment to his family, and his service to his country all were to him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His loved ones and fellow church members will forever cherish his memory and the example he set as a loving father, devoted husband, and faithful servant of God.

Though we miss him deeply, we take solace in our knowledge that Rustico has finished his race. A viewing and funeral schedule arrangements will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to the family’s GoFundMe which will assist them with the funeral and burial expenses. Anything remaining will be used to support Amelita during this difficult time.

On behalf of Amelita and the Gabrintina family, we extend our deepest gratitude for your caring thoughts, prayers, and condolences.
