hi guys! i am trying to raise money for my cat to get surgery!
a little background, when i adopted amelia they told me she was going to need a special diet to prevent crystals/stones, which was not an issue and i was more than happy to provide the food she needed. flash forward a year, i came up on hard times at my job and right around the same time her vet sent me a notice stating that i would need to bring her in for an exam before they could renew her prescription diet (understandably so). unfortunately the hard times at my job lasted from october to early february, during that time i was only able to afford to keep a roof over our heads and absolute necessity items, so from october to february she was eating regular food and not her prescription diet. when things turned around at work i immediately got her in to see her vet. at her appointment i asked if we could do a urinalysis to see how she was doing on the current food i had her on so we know what we’re working with, and if she was fine i wanted to ask about supplementing the food if she wasn’t having any issues eating it. her vet assured me that if she was acting fine and going to the bathroom normally that she didn’t find a need to run one and we could switch her food to focus more on her hard stool, so we switched to a GI biome diet. around 2 weeks ago/2weeks after her visit, when i got home from work i found blood in my litter box. i immediately thought it was amelia because of her history and the new diet change, but because i have 2 other cats i wanted to change out the litter box and wait and see which one it was to be sure, well less than a minute after changing the litter she went, and there was blood.
we went to the ER vet where they did x-rays, ultrasound, and ran a UA to which they found she did infact have stones, because she is still peeing they sent us home with antibiotics and pain meds, told me what to look out for and had us set up an appointment with our regular vet. at our follow up appointment we discussed the treatment options, dissolution and surgery. we can dissolve the stones with the UR diet, but due to the size of the stone it has a chance of breaking down and causing an obstruction which can be life threatening, and they said surgery will ensure the safest/most effective outcome. they estimated the surgery to be around $2700, but i am trying to raise $3100 to prepare for any complications as she is a senior kitty, and also for any fees go fund me takes.
thank you for taking the time to read, if you’re not able to donate- sharing this is just as big of a help!! i appreciate all of the support we’ve gotten already! amelia is the sweetest little old lady and i just wanna keep her as healthy and comfortable as i can.
