Support Amelia's Journey to Health and Independence
Donation protected
Hello everybody, this is going to be a long one and we thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read! This disease is so complex and we wanted to get as much information on here to explain it as best as possible. We are starting this fundraiser for our niece, Amelia, with hopes to cover expenses caused by her autoimmune disease. Your donations will also bring her closer to obtaining a service dog. This will help her to begin to live an independent life which she desperately needs!
Amelia is a vibrant, energetic 16 year old girl with many talents, and a positive perspective. Five years ago she contracted covid and began to develop odd neurological symptoms. This caused her to have syncope spells (fainting) seizures, and large fluctuations in her blood pressure and heart rate.
Over the past five years she has been seen by many neurologists and cardiologists in many different facilities. She has had a gauntlet of medical tests that have mostly come back as “normal”. Through these tests she has been diagnosed with dysautonomia, specifically POTS, and having a Functional Neurological Disorder. The type of seizures she has are categorized as Non-Epileptic Seizures and they do not respond to medication. The general consensus from the medical community is that she has neurological dysfunction going on in her brain which affects her Autonomic Nervous system.
Amelia has had many times of remission from her symptoms. But, symptoms can come around at anytime and they most always flare up when she contracts an illness. During a flare up, she is unable to function without the assistance of someone at her side all day, the aid of wheelchairs and IV fluids.
She has been given treatment based purely on the brains Neuro-Plasticity, through a group of Functional Neurological Chiropractors in Atlanta. These doctors have really helped her over time, but the treatments are very expensive.
She would benefit from this therapy during calm times and not just when it’s an emergency and vital.
The cost has prevented Amelia's parents, Melissa and Daniel, from being able to go in that direction.
Lord-willing, through your donations, a service dog would help to alert Amelia of the need to sit down due to an impending seizure or syncope spell and could alert others if an episode has already taken place.
We know a service dog would help her feel comfortable in knowing that the dog was there to help her, as well as be a companion through this difficult season. The treatments most beneficial to Amelia’s health and independence are not covered by insurance.
The goals are to get Amelia the tools she needs to be as healthy neurologically as she can be and provide her with independence and a bit of security as she is getting older. We believe God is capable of healing Amelia and we pray that daily for her. But should he choose not to, we feel it is prudent to try and prepare in the best ways possible for her fast approaching adulthood.
