As many of you know, my best friend Amber is pregnant with twins. Twin A has been diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a serious congenital heart defect, and Amber has also been diagnosed with Vasa Previa, a high-risk pregnancy complication. Despite these challenges, both babies are currently doing well, and we remain hopeful for the best possible outcome.
Immediately after birth, Baby A will need to undergo open-heart surgery, followed by additional surgeries in the months ahead. Amber will be admitted to the hospital weeks before delivery for close monitoring to reduce risks and ensure the safest possible outcome for both babies and mom. During this time, she will be separated from her husband and their other children, who will be traveling back and forth from Oak City to Duke as time and finances allow.
Donations will help cover the many expenses associated with this journey, including medical costs for both mom and babies, childcare for their other children, travel, and living expenses. Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to this family. Please consider donating or sharing this page to help support them through this incredibly difficult time.
Update:
The twins arrived a but early at 31 weeks via emergency C-section.
Baby A (Goldie) is facing additional complications beyond what we anticipated and will need extensive medical care in the months ahead. Baby B (Opal) is doing well and growing stronger each day.
Mom is doing well physically, but the emotional weight of NICU stays, long recoveries, and the babies being two hours apart at two different hospitals is overwhelming. The months ahead will be filled with hospital stays and critical procedures.
Now more than ever, this family needs our support. Please consider donating or sharing to help surround them with strength, stability, and encouragement during this incredibly difficult time.
