Support Amaroo Wildlife Shelter

Donation protected
Amaroo Wildlife Shelter is a small group of dedicated volunteer wildlife carers and rescuers from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne in Monbulk Victoria.

I am Nicola Rae. I founded Amaroo wildlife Shelter about 5 years ago after I got my Wildlife rehabilitation licence from our state government.
Before this I was a foster carer and keen student under my mentor Michelle who put up with my many questions all day and all night for the first year.
Over the years I have now gathered a small group of dedicated foster carers and volunteers to assist with the busy work load and many rescues.

Amaroo's wildlife shelter, like all wildlife shelters in Victoria is run out of my home.  This means a spare room set up as a small hospital, a garden full of avairies and pens, I share my fridge with them also so it's filled with milk formulas, milk bottles, medications, fish and mice for the birds, native flowers and even insects like meal worms.  The living room and even my bed room are used to house the young joeys who are too young to live outside.

We work very hard around the clock to help sick, injured and orphaned  Australian native animals such as wombats, kangaroos, brushtail possums, ringtail possums, sugar gliders, blue tongue lizards, turtles, echidnas, tawny frogmouths, magpies, ducklings, honey eaters, cockatoos, lorikeets, kookaburras and many more!

The shelter recieves no goverment funding and relies on the generousity of people making donations or the occassion grant we can apply for.
The costs of buying specialist feed and milk formulas each month is very expenisive. Medications for sick animals or drugs used to dart and sedate animal on rescues adds up very quickly. We spend hundreds of dollars on items like heat pads, heat lamps, syringes, needles, portable cots for joeys, cages, bowls and possum boxes, which every possum in care needs.

We are desperate to raise money so we can build larger enclousures for the marsupials and a flight aviary for the birds.

With  some of the money raised we intend to purchase some night vision cameras so we can monitor wombat burrows in the area we plan to release our wombats in. This is so we can see if any burrows are vacant for our wombats to move into or occupied by other wombats.

We also need funds to purchase some new rescue nets and wood for Simon our wonderful volunteer who builds our boxes for the possums and gliders.

The shelter really needs a kangaroo run also but we cannot do this without donations as the fencing materials are too much for me to cover alone on my wage.
I work long hours as a vet nurse which provides me with great veterinary support for the animals in care at Amaroo but the vet nurse wage is low.
I spend most of my own wage running the shelter, which I am happy doing but it would be very hard for me to find a job that pays higher wages and allows me to bring sick or orphaned animals to work each day when I need to.

For us to be able to continue to run the shelter and expand in the future we need your support.

We can help more animals if we can raise more funds.
Every cent helps and we really appreaciate donations and people liking and sharing our facebook page and website.

If we were able to raise the goal that would be amazing!

If we were able to receive on going regular donations each month that would be incredible!

Please help us to help them.
