We found this sweet little weiner dog on interstate 80 in the middle of nowhere near Elk Mountain Wyoming. We thought he was abandoned, but after having him scanned for a chip by Laramie Humane Society, we found out he has a pretty miraculous story.
It turns out his momma, Amanda was in a bad accident there on I80 near Elk Mountain as she was driving from Indiana to Oregon. She was injured and transported to Rawlins via ambulance, and this little guy had been thrown from the car and lost, wandering hungry and scared avoiding coyotes and interstate traffic for better than a week. Someone reported afterwards they had hit a dog near there. On top of losing her only car, and nearly her own life, she thought she had lost her little friend. She was devastated… Until she answered the phone a week later to hear her little dog was alive! She told us her daughter had been praying for Chewie, even though the family thought he was gone. A little girl’s prayer was answered!
We found out through Laramie Humane Society that a man driving his truck route through there reported to them he had been stopping his semi truck trying for a week to rescue a black dachshund near Elk Mountain.
We put up a missing dog post on the “Wyoming Road and Weather Conditions Reports Updates” Facebook page, and someone tagged him in it. This kind man has since been lining up a ride to Oregon for Chewie to reunite with his family!
I think Chewie’s unlikely survival journey is more than just a nice feel-good side note. I think this happened out of providence, and I believe Amanda’s injuries and hardship can have a happy ending. This sweet little weiner dog can bring her the miracle she needs in her life.
Any donation is greatly appreciated! Thank you, and god bless.
