Support Amanda's Life-Saving Lung Transplant

My name is Catie Voshell, and together with her friends and family, I am raising funds to support my dear friend Amanda Sorge as she prepares for a life-saving lung transplant surgery. Ten years ago, I was lucky enough to meet Amanda during a time when I very much needed a friend. She has been one of my closest companions throughout the last decade, and I've known few people like her. She remains cheerful, generous, thoughtful, and kind in spite of her debilitating medical conditions. She is a courageous mother and loving friend who is facing the fight of her life.

Amanda has been battling pulmonary hypertension since birth, a chronic, degenerative lung disease that affects the arteries in her lungs and the right side of her heart. Her illness has resulted in substantial disability, but Amanda has worked hard to manage her condition, remain self-sufficient, maintain her own home, and to provide and care for her 12-year-old daughter, Brooklynn.

Unfortunately, Amanda's health has taken a severe turn. In addition to pulmonary hypertension, she has been diagnosed with stage 4 emphysema, the most advanced and final stage of this progressive lung disease, which has severely damaged the air sacs in her lungs. Coupled with asthma, Amanda's respiratory system is under constant strain, making every breath a challenge. Her health has deteriorated to the point where she requires 10 liters of supplemental oxygen daily, making even the simplest tasks (getting dressed, climbing stairs) a struggle. Her medical team has now turned her over to the transplant team, and placement on the lung transplant list is imminent. This life-saving procedure is Amanda's only hope for survival. Without it, her doctors have given her 4 years to live.

Urgent Need for Transplant: Amanda's illnesses have left her lungs severely compromised. She faces a complex and life-threatening situation. Her survival hinges on receiving a double lung transplant. The wait for donor lungs can take up to a year, and during this time, Amanda needs continuous rest, medical support, and care.

Financial Strain: The path through pre-transplant care, surgery itself, and the lengthy recovery period will be physically and emotionally overwhelming. Amanda is facing significant financial challenges as she prepares for this journey. While she is fortunate to have insurance in place to cover much of the cost of her medical care, she needs assistance with essential costs and living expenses during the critical preparatory and recovery periods.
