Hi everyone,
My name is Amanda, and I’m reaching out because I’m going through something I never imagined I’d experience.
On November 22nd, a fire broke out in my apartment building at 168 E. 89th Street in New York City. Although the fire was on another floor, the entire building received a mandated vacate order, forcing all residents — including me — to evacuate immediately. Overnight, my kids and I lost our home, our stability, and the place where we felt safe.
I’m incredibly grateful to be physically okay. But the reality is that I’m now suddenly displaced with nowhere to return to, and I have no renters insurance to help cover the costs of emergency housing, replacing essentials, or rebuilding my life. My landlord has not offered any assistance or guidance, leaving me to navigate everything on my own during an already overwhelming time.
Right now, I need help covering:
• Temporary housing
• Replacing basic necessities (clothing, toiletries, bedding, etc.) - my son’s room and belongings were destroyed
• Lost work days and unexpected transportation costs
• Storage fees and handling what belongings can be salvaged
• Moving costs once I am able to secure a new place
I’m doing my best to stay strong, but this has been emotionally and financially devastating. Any amount — truly any amount — will help me and my kids get back on our feet, secure a safe place to stay, and begin rebuilding some stability.
If you can’t donate, sharing this link means the world to me.
Thank you so much for reading, for caring, and for supporting me through something so frightening and unexpected. Your kindness will help me get through one of the hardest moments of my life.
With love and gratitude,
Amanda
