Hello, my name is Claire. As a close friend of Amanda’s, I am helping her set up this GoFundMe to support her in this trying time.

The below is a summary of what she has been going through that I have written in consultation with her. The account will be run by Amanda and all proceeds will go directly to her.

Amanda’s beloved husband, Geoff, died after a long battle with Type 1 diabetes. She had dedicated herself to caring for him as he struggled through health complications and hospitalizations related to his disease, including two strokes and open-heart surgery.

These last years together were incredibly sad and difficult for Amanda and Geoff. Geoff not only spent the last years of his life unable to work, but Amanda was unable to get him recognized for disability. At every step, he and Amanda had to negotiate with health insurance whether doctor-recommended care would be approved. This resulted in Geoff’s situation continuing to deteriorate as he experienced cascading setbacks. Potentially life saving care was delayed.

When Geoff died, he and Amanda were waiting for him to receive the planned kidney donation surgery (thanks to a donation from his brother) that had been delayed for years due to the deterioration of his health. They were desperately hoping his current stay in rehab would put him back in a position to be able to undergo the surgery.

Amanda unfortunately does not have the support of nearby family as she grieves with their cherished pets. She is left facing many hurdles.

This fund will go toward helping Amanda cover expenses related to handling Geoff’s estate, the portion of Geoff’s medical expenses that are not being covered by insurance, as well as home and car repairs that were deferred while Amanda used her time, energy and funds to take care of Geoff over the past five years.
