Amanda is family. Though not legally adopted, she has been a sister to Melinda and me since childhood. She grew up in our home, spent holidays and vacations with us, and to this day, our parents are “Grandma and Grandpa” to her beautiful children, Sofia and Niko. She has been a part of our hearts for as long as we can remember, and now, in her time of need, we are standing by her, just as she has always stood by us.

Amanda has been raising her two children on her own, working tirelessly at two jobs while being their full-time caregiver. With no access to affordable childcare, she has done everything in her power to provide for them, stretching every dollar, sacrificing her own needs, and leaning on faith to keep pushing forward. Despite her relentless efforts, she has faced one hurdle after another.

Her legal battle for custody and support has drained every financial resource available. Delays by the opposite party have left her carrying the full financial weight of raising Sofia and Niko for months, with no relief in sight. And now, after battling back-to-back illnesses with her children, Amanda has lost her job, her primary source of income that kept their home, their car, and their lives stable.

As of today, Amanda has also lost her legal representation because she can no longer afford the mounting costs. With court this coming week, she is facing the devastating reality of standing alone in a fight no mother should have to go through without support.

If you know Amanda, you know she is the definition of resilience. Her children are her entire world, and she has spent every waking moment ensuring they have a loving, stable, and joy-filled childhood despite every obstacle in her path. She has fought to give them opportunities, secured federal and state grants to enrich their lives, and even just reenrolled in community college last week to further her education. She has done everything in her power, but now, she needs us.
