Reaching out here to speak up as we are beyond grateful to call our family member, friend, and admirable soul Alyssa a SURVIVOR.
On the night of September 3rd, her spirit, her freedom, her safety, and nearly almost her life was taken. Alyssa was the victim and now survivor of the most traumatizing experiences a human could endure. She was choked, punched, kicked, and so much more at the hands of her youngest son's father. With no care for her life or the effect on his sons, or his own family, he repeatedly attacked, physically abused, controlled, and threatened her life. After being knocked unconscious and coming to she had to fight for her life and do everything possible to get help and get to safety.
Once finally making it to medical care, doctors assessed the damage caused. She is suffering physically from a fractured eye socket that needs plates and screws that will put her eye and socket back into correct position (with hope her vision in that eye isn't permanently damaged), a jaw that will need long-term treatment to mend her smile, chewing, and simple mouth movements, as well as numerous cuts, bruises, and scrapes.
This is just the beginning of the physical trauma. From these actions, she's lost her current ability to care for her boys on her own, the simplicity of picking them up and hugging them, and the scars of her sons seeing their mom in this condition. She is currently unable to work as she awaits surgery (which was postponed due to the swelling still not decreasing almost five days post abuse). She is unable to drive, make meals for her family, just play with her boys, and enjoy their first weeks back to school.
Please help us in any way able support Alyssa and her family as they have a long road ahead of them on this path to recovering. She has major surgery in Rochester next week which will require more travel expenses, childcare expenses, and medical bills. Following her first surgery she will still be unable to work and we want to assist in the day to day costs for her family's food, care, and needs.
Once she physically heals she still has a long road ahead to work past the trauma and lack of safety and freedom taken from her that night. Any positive words, thoughts, stories, and experiences you have for her mean more than you know!
Please spread the word that Domestic Violence is right in front us and we are lucky to have a survivor.
We will post progress updates following surgeries, milestones, and steps to recovery as they're reached. Thank you in advance for supporting Alyssa and her family and for reading this heartbreaking story.
