Help Alyssa Fight Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis
Donation protected
On the night of April 23rd, 2024 the lives of Mitchell and Alyssa Boehnlein were turned upside down when Alyssa was taken to the emergency room in South Bend, IN after experiencing seizures. Little did they know this was just the beginning of a challenging battle with Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis, a rare neurological disorder.
Alyssa’s condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to a critical situation where she needed specialized care immediately. On May 1st, Alyssa was airlifted by medical flight to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where she is now undergoing intensive treatment and embarking on a long road to recovery.
Mitchell traveled directly from the ICU of the local hospital in South Bend, Indiana to Rochester, Minnesota to continue to be by Alyssa’s side. He remains focused on providing Alyssa with the love, support and care needed during her treatment and rehabilitation process. The Mayo Clinic medical team expects Alyssa to be in the hospital for up to a year and her recovery process lasting as long as two years.
The journey ahead is scary and uncertain which is both emotionally and financially overwhelming. Despite Alyssa’s unstable condition while in the ICU in South Bend and the Mayo Clinic being her only hope, insurance denied the cost of the medical flight due to the distance. In addition to the cost of the medical flight, there are significant medical expenses, a mortgage in Indiana, the need for housing near Mayo Clinic, travel and more. All while Alyssa is unable to work.
If you are able to make a donation, your kindness and assistance will make a difference. Your donation will go directly towards covering medical bills, rehabilitation services and basic living costs while Alyssa recovers. Together, we can lighten the load so Mitchell and Alyssa can concentrate on what is most important, Alyssa’s recovery journey. Thank you for supporting Mitchell and Alyssa as they fight Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis with courage and hope!
