Dear Family, Friends, and Other Kind-Hearted Ones out there,
We need your help. As many of you know, Alyssa recently received some shocking news after what was supposed to be a routine checkup: she had a tumor the size of a grapefruit on one of her ovaries.
She had surgery to remove the tumor and biopsy it in the unlikely event it was cancer. We say "unlikely" because that's what all the tests showed - and two different surgeons agreed. At her age and with her test results, it just had to be benign.
Sadly, it wasn't. The surgeons found cancer in the tumor and in her uterus as well. She will soon be having genetic testing, an additional surgery to remove her remaining reproductive organs, chemotherapy, etc.
The good news is that she has applied for and received financial aid to cover her mounting medical bills. The bad news is that she recently lost a large portion of her income, so she doesn't know how she will pay her basic living expenses during her treatment.
We want our sweet girl to be focused on healing and getting back to her kind, giving, joyous self. Any amount, no matter how small, will help alleviate the additional stress of wondering how she's going to pay her mortgage, utility, and food bills during her healing process.
Thank you for taking the time to read this - and thank you in advance for helping Alyssa in this difficult time.
P.S. If you're not in a position to give directly, here's another way you can help. Alyssa has a little YouTube channel where she's been posting 100's of math-related videos for years. Her goal is to share her years of experience as a math tutor for free to kids who are struggling in math but don't have the money for an experienced tutor to help them. Right now, the ad revenue from these videos brings in a small monthly stipend (usually enough to pay her natural gas bill). If you know someone who needs math help, please pass her info on. It will bring her joy to know she's helping more kids, and it could help with her financial difficulties as well.
