Hello everyone. This is Mike. Mike lives across the street from my family and I. When the girls and I moved to Ohio from Arizona, he welcomed us with open arms. When Emma cut her finger, Mike was there to clean up the blood while we were at the hospital. Whenever we have had any mechanical questions, he always helps us.
Now he needs our help! Mike is going through a nasty medical battle.
Words from his daughter “So, this week Mike is supposed to have an MRI on Mon in Findlay & then lots more tests & scans at the VA in A.A. on Wed. They'll be scheduling a biopsy after we see the pulmonologist there.
He's got GREAT neighbors! His neighbor Andy mowed their lawn. His neighbor Alyson (& Mike) had bought him a cane a cpl weeks ago. He liked it & needed another 1 like it. So she got it to him when he got home from the hospital. The Dr also suggested a walker for when the canes are harder for him to use. So, his neighbor Kim (& Brad) landed him their extra. His neighbor Chris offered to help move his bed downstairs today. They're all good to him & Diana. I know he REALLY appreciate them.
He had he best day he's had in quite a while yesterday. We think we got the dose & timing of his meds done right & it's helped.
I'll fill everyone in as we know them & hope everyone has a great week! Mike's (& his entourage's) day began earlier than usual to make it to Ann Arbor V.A. for all of the scheduled tests, scans, & PFTs, & ultimately with/ the pulmonologist, Dr. Armburg. He talked to my Dad in ways that just made sense to him. HARD questions were asked by us. We're always feeling fear throughout the day, but this appointment helped all of us, even my Daddy! We knew about the masses in the lungs. However, to SEE with our own eyes is another shock altogether. He has approximately 5 vertebrae, so you can see the "C" moving throughout them.
We were told there's been a lot of medical strides within even last 6 months! New treatment is being used ALL the time.
He MUST be careful about how he moves & CANNOT pick up ANYTHING heavy as this can suddenly have a vertebra collapse, which could sever the spinal cord. No worries, he's ALWAYS surrounded by help & live & support! They mentioned so many possible treatments that we all found a slice of hope for the day.
The last important conversation required to have was to address his pain levels. This Palliative care doctor took GREAT care of him in that sense. And the new regimen is already showing signs of improvement.
His bronchoscopy/biopsy is on Tues. @ 7am V.A. is paying for his lodging for the night before. While we're waiting to see what pathology finds & sequences it for staging, he won't be just be doing nothing. He'll be seeing the Oncologist on the 23rd.
I know this is a LOT! If I've left out something important or you have questions, just ask them!
Overall, my Daddy seems a bit more positive leaving there compared to how he was when we walked in.
Hope everyone is well.
Mike appreciates & is grateful for EVERYONE!
We understand group texts can be a lot. I've found that silencing the notifications helps & just take a look at it a cpl times a day? Whatever works for you...Dad's handpicked who he's comfortable having in here & also approves EVERY message BEFORE I send it.
Hope all is with health!“
Mike is the main bread winner for his family and is struggling to stay afloat while dealing with medical issues.
