My name is Alysia, and I am a single mother and currently in nursing school. Over the past year, I have faced a number of health challenges, and most recently, I had to undergo serious Back surgery on November 13. As a result, I am required to be off work for at least two months, and unfortunately, I do not have any paid time off. Before surgery i was down to limited work days due to my health which has already made it difficult financially. I am the sole provider for my family, and now being unable to work at all and have no income is a scary and overwhelming situation.

Under normal circumstances I work multiple jobs to make sure my family has everything we need to cover rent, utilities, and groceries and medical expenses. In today’s economy, every bit counts! So being suddenly without income is something I never expected to face. I am considered a high risk recovery and have extensive restrictions for the next 6-8 weeks, which has me depending on others to help care for me physically during this time which is a big adjustment for someone who is used to handling everything on their own.

It’s not easy for me to ask for help, but right now, I have to do whatever it takes as a mother to make sure my family gets through this and with a healthy mom in the end.
